FAQs
Are Hurricanes an Issue?
Hurricane season generally begins in June and extends through November. Typically, the highest exposure is from August through September. Please purchase travel insurance to cover any cancellations or delays, especially during these months.
Can I dock my boat?
Our private dock was destroyed by Hurricane Dorian as well, and has not been rebuilt yet, but we are planning to rebuild it. For now, boats can be kept at Orchid Bay Marina for $2/foot and that is an 8-minute golf ride away (call 242.806.1109 to book your spot).
Do I need a golf cart?
The rental of a golf cart is mandatory for the duration of your stay. Although you can walk to the settlement in 45 minutes, you will want to use the golf cart for grocery shopping, going to restaurants, exploring the island, and as a safety precaution. In case of emergency, a golf cart would be a must irrespective of whether you rent a boat. We suggest renting from Donna’s Golf Carts (242.458.3509)
Can my friends visit?
No more than six registered guests are to stay at or occupy Sand So Sea. No outside guests are allowed without express written permission from the owner.
Can I bring my dog?
Pets are not permitted. One non-shedding small dog will be considered but this needs the express permission of the owner and will come with a pet fee.
Can I smoke on the porch?
No smoking in the house or on the grounds. This is strictly a smoke-free environment with a zero-tolerance policy. Smoking at Sand So Sea will result in a 100% forfeit of your security deposit + possible fines.
How do I get there?
You will want to fly to Marsh Harbour MHH. From there, you will take a taxi ($25) 15 minutes to the ferry dock and either catch the public ferry ($15) for 45 minutes or take a private charter ($250) for 25 minutes. We will supply you with the details of taxi drivers and ferry companies when you have booked.
Remember: When island hopping using the ferry service, be sure to advise the captain of your itinerary and request a round-trip ticket in advance to save money. The two ferry companies are G&L and The Ferry Limited.
Where do I purchase groceries?
Our island grocery store has been transformed and has all you will need for your vacation (just don’t look at the prices), even stocking Veuve Clicquot Champagne and Starbucks coffee! Or you can shop in Marsh Harbour at Maxwells which is comparable to a Kroger’s.
What is the minimum age for occupancy?
The minimum age for occupancy is 13 years old, and this is due to the exposed position of the house next to the ocean and also the height of our terrace.
How do I get to the beach?
Sand So Sea is on the oceanfront, however our shoreline is rocky. For a soft, sandy beach visit Caysera - one of the most beautiful beaches in the world, with only a brief golf cart ride or a 10-minute stroll from Sand So Sea.
Where can I rent a boat?
If you are an experienced boater, we recommend renting a boat from BlueWave on Marsh Harbour. They do not offer insurance and take a large deposit. The alternative is renting from Island Marine on Parrot Cay near Hopetown.
How can I go fishing & diving?
If you would like to go out diving, we recommend contacting Diva Guana. Troy and Maria are the owners. Visit www.diveguana.com.
Where should we eat on Great Guana Cay?
Nipper’s is perched on the beach and ocean side, go there for lunch for the views. There is often a band and a party atmosphere on Sunday during the day, drawing locals and tourists. www.nippersbar.com
Grabbers is located on Fisher’s Bay and you can eat under the coconut palms; they draw a crowd of locals and tourists on Wednesday nights at 5:30 for their wings night. www.grabbersatsunset.com
Mamma's is near the grocery store and she does a nice lunch or takeaway on her terrace. Get on her WhatsApp thread to receive a daily menu.
Where should we eat in Abaco?
Wally’s Fine Dining and Abaco Beach Resort are our recommended spots in Marsh Harbour. The latter is a great place for breakfast on your day of departure if you have time to kill.
On Elbow Cay stop by Abaco Inn, Firefly, or The Hopetown Harbour Inn and Marina.
